Today's Date: May 4, 2017
Meeting Date: May 18, 2017
Meeting Time: 9:15 AM Eastern
Requested Location (if offsite, please list address, parking instructions, etc.): Office of the Administrator
Requestor: United Egg Producers
Purpose of the Meeting: Egg producers that are members of the trade association representing the producers of approximately 95% of the nation's domestic egg supply would like to meet with Administrator Pruitt to thank him for the steps he has taken to this point to help create a more rational, sound and effective federal regulatory program that properly respects the role of the states. The producers would like to share with the Administrator information about some of the great strides that egg producers have taken to properly manage their animals so as to protect water and air quality, and the extent to which the industry's total environmental footprint has been reduced over the last 50 years even as the number of egg laying hens and the total amount of eggs produced has increased to meet demand. They will share with the Administrator some of their first-hand experiences with how the federal environmental regulatory programs can or do affect them, their farming businesses, and families.
Background on the Meeting: Egg producers have direct and important experiences with several of the regulatory programs operated by US EPA, including the Clean Water Act rulemaking for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations, the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act and the costs that the associated rulemakings can entail. As for many in the private sector, egg producers have taken great strides to improve the efficiency of their operations, and in the process, have improved their farms' and the sector's environmental performance.
Role of the Administrator: We seek an opportunity to have a conversation with the Administrator on the above topics, to hear his views on these matters and to learn more about his plans for policymaking at US EPA.
