WASHINGTON, D, C. 20009 (202) S35-4 October 18, 1973 Dear Mr. Worden: In our recent conversation, we discussed the forthcoming conference on lead poisoning scheduled for November 12 and 13, 1973, at the Marvin Center, George Washington University. The purpose of the conference is to have representatives from the public and private sectors develop a coordinated and more oorprehensive plan to eliminate lead poisoning in the District of Columbia. The Committee that is sponsoring the conference represents some of the many agencies and organizations presently involved directly or indirectly in the control of lead poisoning. Due to the magnitude of the problem, organizations and individuals of the District and on the national level are being asked to support and participate in the conference and the anticipated follow-up activities. Since the Lead Industries Association's concern with lead poisoning is of such long duration, the Committee would like to enlist a great deal of your support in the developmental stages. It would be extremely help ful if we were able to review your written materials and/or to meet with a member of your staff to explore your activities in the following areas: 1. Your previous conference experience; . 2. The effectiveness of your educational materials; 3. Your present activities relating to sources of lead ingestion other than paint; 4. And your legislative effort. Secondly, it would be most informative for the other conference partici pants to have a representative from your organization in each of the four workshop groups on November 12 and 13. The groups will focus on the following topic areas: 1. Housing with emphasis on lead paint as a source of poisoning; 2. Environmental sources of lead contamination; 3. Parent-child relations and community education; 4; Legislation and financing/inplementation.
