Wages - UCC Subject: Minutes of Safety Meeting Concerning Asbestos - June 16, 1977 J. L. Rosenberger opened the meeting by reviewing the Construction Procedures outlining the procedures to follow when removing asbestos insu lation. This procedure complies with the ruling of OSHA. Asbes tos (1) Monitoring UCC Plant Industrial Hygiene Group will monitor the amount of asbestos dust present during the stripping operation. The results of exposure will be furnished to UCC Construction so in turn Construction can notify the Contractors within the 5-day limit. (2) Medica 1 s All personnel working in any exposed area will have had a medical examination or will have agreed to waiver this right. A copy of all examinations and waivers will be held on file. (3) Personnel Protection All personnel working in an exposed area of asbestos dust will have the following protection. (b) Coveralls shall be worn and laundered after each use. (c) Approved respirators will be worn. (d) A change room will be provided, separating contaminated clothes from street clothes. (U) Area Protection All areas exposed to asbestos dust will be barricaded and unauthorized personnel will not be permitted to enter area until made asbestos-dust free. (5) Working Conditions Weather barrier shall be removed and a water spray applied during operation. Asbestos insulation will be removed under water spraying condition. All insulation and weather barrier will be immediately bagged and disposed of. All bags shall be tagged as being asbestos contaminated. (6) Method of Work All work shall be performed in a safe manner as per all required safety procedures. A discussion of overall safety considerations was held and a meeting between operations and construction was scheduled for June 17, at 9:00 a.m. The purpose of this meeting would be to make production aware of the built-in hazards of construction and also the requirements of operations to be in areas necessary to continue partial operation the first part of the shutdown Construction is requested to refrain from entering the control room unless necessary to perform certain phases of the job.
