C-8 IN AIR MONITORING
This letter is to communicate to all TEFLON* employees that a change in our C-8 monitoring program vill occur in 1988.
Personal and area sampling for C-8 has continued at very high levels since our program began in 1980. The results of these samples indicate that the sample schedule could be reduced and still adequately monitor employee
exposure to C-8.
In order to accurately define which jobs require continued sampling
and which jobs do not, we will begin a characterization of all PERS job classifications which have C-8 exposure. Characterization means that each
FERS job to be studied will undergo 6-10 carefully Careful monitoring is where one person wears a personal sample monitor and a
second person carefully notes where the sampled person
^
sampled. In this way, we can document with high accuracy the process exposure
that the sampled person received. Examination of these results will permit us
to establish the new sample schedule.
During the characterization process, no other routine C-8 in air monitoring samples will be taken. The production areas will continue to use area samples to monitor equipment for process leaks.
