Duncan River Grit Deposit
On 5/19, Jay Mooney and I visited a grit deposit located 26.4 Km north of Cooper Creek, British Columbia on the east side of Duncan River (Exhibit I). '
The ore crops out for about 215 feet along the dirt road with a strike of N 60 W and a dip near vertical (Exhibit II). The grit rock is present in two zones from north to south of 77 ft. and 70 ft. bounded on both sides and separated by dark gray to black metasediments.
The northern zone contains 19 ft. of serpentine located about 33 ft. from its northern contact.
A second grit exposure was visited about 2500 ft. southeast and 600 ft. above the road cut exposure. This locality has been used to cut small blocks of talc for carving. Grit rock was traced about 300 ft, northwest and 1300 ft. southeast of this locality. The thickness at this location appears to be about 100 ft. pinching to 70 ft. on the southeastern end of the traverse.
The terrain is quite rugged with slopes commonly at 37 degrees; however, glaciation has flattened the grit zone developing a bench that mining could easily utilize.
Access to the grit zone would require improving the existing road for haul trucks, but grades would not exceed 8%.
The grit rock is a typical foliated to massive talc-magnesite rock with some chlorite. The talc is estimated to range from 55% to 80% with magnesite and chlorite comprising the remainder. Portions of the ore are heavily stained orange or brown but most of this appears to be limonite derived from the leaching of iron rich magnesite. No magnetic, hematite or pyrite was observed; however, tremolite and actinolite are present at one contact. Overall the grit zones appear quite uniform.
In place reserves are large with about 4 million tons being estimated for the area investigated (1600 ft. long X 100 ft. wide and 300 ft. deep).

The ownership of the ten claims covering this crown land is 433 Winchester Management Corporation of Nelson, 8.C. The company is owned Joy Marvin Singleton, Attorney and managed by Jay Mooney. The claims consist of four from an estate (Ted 1 thru 4) and six new claims just established (BJB 1 thru 6j. 1 did not. attempt to verify the validity of these claims but I suspect they may be somewhat shaky.
Mr. Mooney stated they are open to any proposal but would be very interested in being the operator for mining and milling. He feels that government support would be easily acquired for a project of this type with a minium of environmental problems.
In conclusion, even if testing proves this to be a usable ore the remote location excludes consideration of producing low grade fillers so flotation would be required to produce a product. This will require a significant capital outlay. Justification for this type of project in British Columbia really appears questionable.
