In the somewhat Lurried interval between my return home and my departure for Atlantic City, X have looked over all of the analytical results on Phase 1 of our investigation, and. am indicating on the attached sheet {2 copies) the distribution of the frequencies of occurrence ox certain findings in the urine of the employees of the
garage. These data will give you a clear confirmation of sty statement
that the results which I had in hand at the time were indicative of the normal status of this group of men, with respect to lead absorption. The combination of these data with those on the blood, all of which are entirely normal, makes a very satisfactory base line for our further observationi >
2 enclose herewith, without referring to the memorandum of instructions
to me concerning bills and similar details, a statement, in duplicate,
of my expenses (or that portion which seems equitable), and a bill for
two days of service. I propose to make such a charge only for the Cays I spend put ox my office on this investigation, since I regard my
activities at my desk as being only the normal performance ci my duties
as the Director of The Kettering Laboratory'. (Another group engaged my services' in Los Angeles, and thus I split the time spent in traveling between the two groups.) There is, behind my bill for service by days,
a supporting bit of work, done at home. I make this explanation only because I like to make clear to the people for whom we work, the financial
policies of the Laboratory. I expect other members of our staff to find means of reimbursing the Laboratory for the days they lose from the Laboratory in the service of a specific sponsor, client or patient, and of course, I undertake to do the same myself. The fees are turned over to the Laboratory, in part or in whole, as circumstances indicate, but the individual may act as a professional consultant in his own right.
While I am dealing with this, I may say that I have not sent reports or correspondence on this work to anyone but yourself. I have in mind the desirability of putting all of the information together, phase by phase, and reporting it to the several groups interested, either directly or through you, and, at that time also, X intend to make an itemized statement

None of the men in this Group of sixteen yielded unusual or abnormal results (if the minute volume of a few samples that yielded relatively high results be taken into account).
The distribution of the results is like that of a normal group of men whose work involves no exposure to lead compounds.
The mean value (which has not been calculated at this time) by inspection, lies somewhere between 0.03 and 0.05 mg. per liter, and is thus at or very near the normal level.
