LOCATION: ^Portland Your letter of January 24 on the above has been discussed with Matt Fink and John DiLorenzo. Our observations are as follows: Group A 1. - 5. These items are all required by O.S.H.A., and we do not have much choice except to comply. There is no provision for keeping the expense out of plant expense so we will have to accept it in costs. Group B 1. We should proceed with the hearing tests on present employees and all new employees. We do not plan to repeat the hearing tests after we have established a record on present employees and all new hires. 2. Matt Fink advises that roll bars are not required when a vehicle is working on the level. It is a requirement in quarries and roadbuilding. If you develop a problem in this area, please ask Matt for assistance. 3. Exit doors as outlined are mandatory with O.S.H.A. 4. You will have to play the plaster elevator by ear. If there is considerable expense involved, let us know. 5. Your report indicates this should be done by now. 6., 7. Same as No. 5. 8. Our interpretation is that any building equipped with illumination shall have standard lighting in the exit areas. If the exit area is not lighted, it will require a lighted sign. These signs must be at least 6" high with 3/4" staff lettering. 9. These aisles may be inconvenient from a building use standpoint, but we should comply with the regulations.
