Y. >' V* Dear Mr. Hurlesa: I have your letter of April 28th and note that you will have to sell the Tooele Lead Fume to American Chemet Corp. at 12.625^ per pound which la the aame basis as it la sold to other paint manufacturers. There la some misunderstanding here and I evidently did not make myself clear In my original letter. lat-Amertean Chemet Corporation is not a paint manufacturer but la a producer of leaded sine ^oxlde which la sold to the. paint trade. This lead fume would be used as a raw material in the manufacture of 35 leaded tine for resale. I doubt tnat you are now selling any other manufacturer that would fall In same classification as our use. 2nd-It la true that the American Chemet Corp. and the Columbia Paint Company are allied In that American Chemet owns a controlling Interest In the Columbia Paint Co. However, the two companies are separate corporations and deal with each other at "arms length". Pigment sales that American Chemet may make to Columbia are Invoiced at the market price the same as any other customer. 3rd-The price of 12.625^ per pound for this Lead Fume will exclude It from any further consideration on the use we had In mind. Will you discuss the matter with your Legal Department and see if this later Information change* the picture to any extent. We hava made soma blends with Tooele Lead fume and East Helena fume and they look surprlalngly good. None of these have been submitted to the trade but It la possible that some tonnage can be developed If we can offer the final user an appreciable saving You of course know that if the Lead Fume is priced at 12.625^ that It would be Impossible for us to blend, pack, sell and pay freight on such a product and even offer It at the market, much less, show th* user a saving.
