Weigbtman SUBJECT ASBESTOS ECOLOGY whom at PL 4.1.0 Many questions are feeing asked and statements made as to the possible health hazard of using asbestos fibers is manufactured products. Many of our accessory products contain asbestos. We are gathering all available information both on the problems of handling asbestos fibers in our-plants and the use of cur asbestos-containing products by con tractors and workmen. This information will be relayed to each plant as soon as possible. It is requested that any inquiries from inspectors or any other persons . concerning asbestos fibers be referred through channels to me for review and consent, since I will have the most up-to-date information available. Meanwhile, good routine safety and housekeeping procedures should be practiced. Those working where asbestos dusting occurs, especially in charging mixers and operating packers, should wear efficient and reliable respirators. Asbestos spills should be promptly cleaned up so that they are sot tracked around or stirred into the air. Empty bags should be collapsed ar.d folded so that they will not puff dust when handled again. All efforts should be made to avoid getting asbestos dust in the air. /c
