Make certain the neople in your organization are knowledgeable in depth about
the act and its administration - and are kept up-to-date on new developments.
Consider setting up a special information service on this subject within your
organisation.

Critically examine existing safety and .health conditions at your facilities.
Analyse and where necessary strengthen your own safety and health programs.
Maintain liaison with OSHA offices in the regions, perhaps detailing a specific person to be in charge of this liaison and letting us know vrho he is.
Also, maintain liaison with safety officials of your State government.
If an employer has multiple plants, consider putting together a "road show" consisting of a team of people such as legal counsel, safety director, hygienist, etc., to make presentations at the various plant sites.
Have someone or a group within your organization analyze the presently pro mulgated standards, and those to be promulgated in the future, in terms of their significance to your operation, and to make certain you remain in compliance.
Make sure you have an effective internal safety training program for employees.
If you find it difficult or impossible to employ full-time safety people con sider utilizing the services of consultation services, which may be available from your industry association or independently.
Be active in your industry associations with regard to job safety and health. Make sure they are active in this field. Participate in appropriate committee activities.
On your own, and through your industry associations, participate in the pre paration of new and revised standards.
Encourage the development of safety professionals. Consider offering safety and health scholarships and funding chairs in safety engineering and industrial hygiene. Work with States, counties, and cities to encourage the setting up of courses at community institutions, rush as the rapidly-growing group of community colleges. Help promote to young people in your communities awareness that the safety and health field is blossoming and offers a sound future career.
Consider instituting awards programs for outstanding work in the safety and health field.

-2Work with the labor organizations in your industry in-the safety and-health fields.
Cover safety and health in your publications and at your annual meetings. Add appropriate speech material and speakers to your speakers bureau. Develop job hazard analyses for all operations where the potential for injury or occupational illness may be significant. Set specific safety goals for your organization, and measure progress toward such goald on a regular basis. Let both your employees and your stockholders know that the protection of life and limb on the job - "protectivity" - is equally important with productivity in your operations.
