ROBERT HUGHES DEER PARK MANUFACTURING COMPLEX SUBJECT: PULMONARY REGISTRY REVIEW Thank you for sending me the recent consultation that Dr. S. P. Fisher performed in this case. Having read Dr. Fishers consultation, I do not see any reason to change the conclusions that I reached and sent to you in my October 18, 1989 consultation report. Even if there were changes on the chest x-ray indicating pleural plaques (and essentially, Dr. Fisher has been the only film reader who said that) and even if there were radiographic signs of interstitial fibrosis present; the fact that the x-rays are essentially unchanged from 1977 to the present would indicate that changes either in the pleural or in the lung parenchyma (if they were due to asbestos) must have occurred prior to his employment at Shell because he joined Shell in 1977. You will recall that both Dr. Patrick Conoley and Dr. M. A. Mullican both interpreted the chest x-ray as showing the absence of any pleural change.
