Dear Mr. Szuch:
I have before me your letter of March 6, 1930 concerning the Raybestos-Manhattan Case. I am sorry to inform you that I will not be able to testify in behalf of the company. The truth is, that the hazards of asbestos ware, or should have been, well known to the corporate community by the 1940's. While it is perhaps also true that RaybestoS was not more negligent in in forming the users of their product about hazards than other companies (I do not know the facts of the matter) there was ample opportunity on the basis of published information for the company to act responsibly. I might add that the "exigencies of the war effort" did not prevent the corporate community from making a profit on war-related work, profits which were larger because of the disregard of the health of working men and women.
I regret that I cannot accomodate you in this matter.
Sincerely yours.
