Pigment Scarlet Lake, RE-.559-D, a whiting extension containing double the toner content 0f RB-389-D (a berytes lake), wsm originally developed specifically for evaluation by one customer, gengoleum Nairn, who subsequently
rejected it as being no better than RE-389-D in dispersion) both products were une&teifactory, giving "spottiness* In addition to weakness under the conditions
of the customer's test*
Another linoleum lake, RM545D, has subsequently been specially treated, to give good dispersion in linoleum, by partial replacement of the whiting
extender with an emulsion of resinous oil and naphthenic acid.
K-2274.
It mas suggested that the resinous oil treatment be tried with R*559"D,

Throe semi-works batches of HS559*D were made, using plant RL-221-D press cake. They were treated as follows!

In linoleum tints both treated batches were a trace stronger then RE-389-D, the i$ft barytes lake, used in double amount. At the full number of mill paesee (1QX) the untreated batoh was only slightly weaker but at only 6 paesee it was markedly inferior to the treated material. Lot 8674 wao very slightly weaker than lot 8673 but would be somewhat eheaper*
Full shade linoleum grinds shewed no difference among bateheai all were vs blue and dull versus MS.J8H*
Strength by the Gongoleum %irn method showed only minor differences but the treated batches were a little stronger than the control*
Inasanoh ae the customer is now using the soap fast naphthanil lake RU-545-D nether than Pigaent Scarlet, no further study of BE-559-D is contemplated at present.
