COMMENTS ON STATISTICS Both the June and year-to-date statistics show that we are higher in all but one category (TIR) than last year at this time. Examination of the monthly departmental and plant graphs shows a number of areas above the es tablished guidelines. 3. PLANT MANAGER'S COMMENTS Phil Brubaker noted that the continued or increasing high slope shown on several of the injury rate charts should be of concern. Our data still doesn't look too bad when compared with all of MCI, but when we look closely at what's happening locally and note the number of incidents and near misses; we must be concerned--and we must apply extra effort to reduce the incident frequency. 4. OLD BUSINESS a. Railroad Lighting -- McCullough No change. b. Hurricane Preparedness -- Rogers for Daues The emergency crew lists are complete and in the mail. 5. REPORT OF THE SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAC) -- RYAN a. Purple Peepers Tom Ryan discussed a letter he had received from Royal Benson on the removal of the "purple peepers" from service due to possible radiation effects. He will write Royal a letter indicating that it will be the option of each user. It was suggested that any replacement or new installation should not be with purple peepers. b. Ladder Inspection Tags SC The suggested use of a stick-on ladder inspection tag met with approval to proceed. 14066 6. REPORT OF SAFETY HOUSEKEEPING AND ACTION COMMITTEE (SHAC)-- TRIPLETT a. An appreciation dinner for the outgoing committee members is scheduled for August 22. d. Three committees have been formed to start work on preparing for the company Safety and Housekeeping Inspection. e. Results and comments on the Emergency Drill test held in June have not been received from all partici pating groups and units. f. Preparation of the hose inspection procedure is a month behind schedule. 7. REVIEW OF INCIDENTS a. 5/25/78 Dept. 14 Analyzer Pump Fire -- McCullough b. 6/5/78 Serious Incident in unloading a ieaking hose of sulfuric acid -- McCullough Phil Brubaker asked for a written update on final corrective actions. c. 6/13/78 13B1 Air Intake Filter Fire -- Fuller. d. 6/16/78 Welding Machine Incident -- McCullough Several complaints were voiced that'the new investigation procedure form is too time consuming. UNIT/CRAFT SAFETY PROMOTION TEAM Training is scheduled for August 8 & 9 or 9 & 10. 10. EMERGENCY ALARMS AND ALL CLEAR SIGNALS Several indicated concern that all areas of the plant can not hear the emergency alarms and/or the all clear signals. "The PMSB has interpreted unattended to mean "out of the driver's seat." In other words, if the- driver of a vehicle lias to get out of the driver's seat, the motor must be stopped. -Please be sure all of our operators are aware of this rule -and that we are in compliance in operation of our pickup -trucks.
