Emerson's Position on the EU REACH Proposal to Restrict Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances May 2023 To whom it may concern: Emerson is committed to compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations in the countries where we operate and to helping our customers meet their environmental, safety, and sustainability goals. We have an active team tasked with staying abreast of the rapidly changing legislative, regulatory and scientific developments regarding a class of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances known as PFAS. Emerson is aware of the EU REACH restriction proposal published on 22 March 2023 that would restrict the use of all PFAS. Many Emerson high performance and high reliability products operate in safety critical applications within industrial environments where product failure could result in loss of life, property damage, and environmental impact. As of today, Emerson believes the continued use of fluoropolymers and fluoroelastomers in these applications will be necessary to meet the product performance and reliability requirements until suitable alternatives become available.1 For these cases, Emerson is participating in the European Chemical Agency's consultation process and seeking a derogation. As substitution to non-PFAS materials becomes commercially available, we will perform qualification activities to validate their performance to ensure safety and reliability.
