My editor has given me a 2 pm deadline today. Has anyone been able to look at this request? Thanks, Eric Niiler WIRED ------ | Forwarded Message------- Subject:WIRED inquiry on hurricane debris disposal Date:Thu, 14 Sep 2017 10:45:46 -0400 From:Eric Niiler f Ex. 6 j To:Press <press@epa.gov> Greetings: I'm a Washington-based contributing writer for WIRED and am putting together a story for Friday (tomorrow) on debris removal after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. I'd like to either connect with someone by phone, or have a few questions answered in writing: -Have state environmental officials in Texas or Florida asked for waivers for EPA disposal rules that would allow mixed solid/hazardous waste into construction and demolition landfills? -If so, has the EPA granted any waivers yet? -Has the Office of Land and Emergency Management (OLEM) addressed concerns raised by a 2016 Office of Inspector General's report on disaster debris: https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2016-06/documents/2016062 9-16-p-0219 .pdf , specifically have they collected information from state agencies about planning for disposal after storms? -Does OLEM have post-disaster debris disposal plans from state officials for the relevant regions of Texas and Florida? -Has EPA and OLEM incorporated the effects of climate change into post-disaster debris planning as noted by the OIG report (pp. 3-4) and the 2014 EPA Climate Change Adaptation Plan? -Anything else that EPA would like to add about its role in debris disposal in Texas and Florida? I appreciate your help. Please let me know if you have any questions. Sincerely, Eric Niiler Sierra Club v.
