Rotzler OLD BUSINESS 1, Hourly Safety Committee Recommendations A. Mr. Nisbet reported that the PAPE is being prepared by Engineering for the additional railroad trackage. It was also reported that the Terminal Railway Company Is trying a different system of switching in itfhich they do not free-roll the cars. This test is still in the evaluation stage but does represent a longer switching time. [ B. Mr. Wood reported that the "hazard boards" have been 1 received, sent to the areas, and some are being ln- j stalled. Mr. Gilmore reported that most of the hazard sheets have been received, some minor revisions are ! "being requested on several of these. Mr. Wood also reported that the color code sheets are being laminated. 2. Safety Program - "You Are Your Brother's Keeper" Twenty-four safety meetings, using the slide-tape program on the theme "You Are Your Brother's Keeper," were presented dur ing the week of June 6 to non-exempt and hourly personnel. Attendance was somewhat disappointing, since only 6856 of the people attended these meetings. The safety department will supply Mr. Nisbet a breakdown by"department a 61 Cm gtlumlaroe. 3. The superintendents will-- njw submit to Mr. Fox a list of persons they would like to have p/urz receive the Manuals. Supervisors Safety Meeting ( A series of four safety training films for supervisors, en titled "Communicationsfbr Safety," will be presented, one each week,beginning the week of June 20 to production super vision In the plant. These meetings will be scheduled by superintendents' groups, and the schedule will be prepared by the safety department and sent to the superintendents. 3. Off-The-Job Safety Program For The Fall It was recommended and approved that arrangements be made to have Mr. ter Braake present his two-hour survival course to employees and members of their families. These sessions will be held outside the plant in sufficient meetings to cover the shift employees. 4. Assignment of Field Safety Inspectors Mr. Gilmore informed the Board that it is necessary to place one of the safety Inspectors in the office full time to handle statistics and programs. Since last July, the number of fire and entry permits processed by the safety inspectors in the ,field has decreased about twenty per cent. The superintendents U \ agreed with this change on the condition that if the field r"l|5 jwork could not be covered, they would discuss this assignment 'T, (.again. 5. Miscellaneous LAM024454 A. Mr. Gilmore reported that Mr. Ray Wilson has been promoted to supervisor. He will continue to serve in the capacity of Assistant Fire Chief. SC 16546 PMSB Minutes - June 3, i960 Page 3 5. Miscellaneous - Continued 3. Mr, Gilmore asked that superintendents* in conducting fire and spill investigations, to please invite Mr, Eason, Fire Chief, to attend these investigations, since information derived at these meetings is helpful to the fire protection of the plant. C. As a result of an incident in department 1, the safetydepartment is considering, in the cases of fire and entry permit work, the use of explosimeters by super vision on specific jobs. It is proposed that when a safety inspector has made a job check, he would leave an explosimeter with supervision if that job would -require subsequent checks to maintain safety of the work. This item will appear on the agenda of the next meeting. D. Mr. Nisbet commented that the off-'che-Etreet parking system waB working well and the Board indicated general satisfaction with the plan. E. Mr. Nisbet raised the question of the inconsistence of the requirement of hats and glasses for "construction" people. He asked that the Board consider a more uniform policy and discuss this at the next meeting. Mr, Gilmore spoke briefly on "Communications in Safety," citing several incidents In which communications obviously had been poor.
