S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) announcement on July 6 concerning its final rule on future manufacture of asbestos-containing products. The rule bans the manufacture of asbestos-containing products in the United States in stages over the next seven years. The rule allows for A/C pipe manufacturing to continue until August 1996, and for the sale of A/C pipe products to continue until August 1997. Also, the rule does not prohibit our customers' continued use of A/C pipe products purchased prior to the sale cutoff date. The asbestos industry, through the Asbestos Information Association, has been carefully reviewing the rule and is strongly considering filing an appeal based on the fact that the rule is not supported by sound scientific evidence.
