Kehoe Kettering Laboratory University of Cincinnati Cincinnati, Ohio Dear Dr. Kehoe: You may recall that Dr. Harry Burrell of Ir.terchemical Corp. and I visited you and Mr. Choiak in September, 1960, and discussed lead toxicology in which our Paint Industry is naturally interested. At the time we were there, no definite plans could be formulated. We agreed to come back later. Since then we have had a suggestion as follows: Our Industry ndeds a good standard method for lead in paints, in the presence of compounds, such as TiQ^, ZnO, LuCrC^, MgSiOg, CaCo^, Iron Blues, (ferro cyanides) Fe20g, Co, and Mn driers, etc.. The test should tell surely whether the of Pb present is on one side or the other of the i.OG'i figure, currently set as maximum, and it should be validated by collaborative test, so that the average health Lab can get results with it. It should be capable, of being used by say a highwaydepartment analytical lab. If Mr. Choiak could undertake to set up such a method we can get collaborators to analyze samples he distributed centrally. We can, of course, furnish all the paint materials. I will be in Cincinnati on April 3rd, so if convenient to you, Burrell and I would like to come and visit you on that day, preferably after lunch.
