The guest speaker, Doug Metten, talked about the future emphasis areas In safety as he saw them. Off-the-job safety, contractor safety, and liability insurance as related to safety were three areas of concern.
Annual Inspection results were communicated to the HSC. We were very proud of the results from our Inspection. The safety attitude of our plant was outstanding.
Shutdown safety was discussed with the Hourly Safety Committee. The results of the AN-5 critique was an item discussed. An action plan will be developed on the safety items from this shutdown.
Old Business
There is still some confusion on traffic signs in the plant. Stop signs should be used only where we want vehicles to stop and yield signs where we want vehicles to yield.
Scaffolding is still a problem with improper scaffolds being built. This needs to be resolved before West Plant shutdown. Plans are to have LP&S clarify our policy. Also, LP&S has been asked to audit our scaffolds before the West Plant shutdown.
There was good feedback on our new safety goggles that do not fog up.
New Business
It was suggested that the fire permits be more rigidly enforced. Information, such as the date, is sometimes omitted. The permits are not always being returned to the chief operator. Fire permits are sometimes used as a work permit. It was suggested that a minimum standard should be picked for permits with no deviation.
Our next meeting will be at 1:30 PM in Personnel Conference Room #1 on October 30, 1984.
