N Personal and area air samples for asbestos were collected by drawing air through 0.8 micron pore size, 37 mm diameter cellulose ester filters at a flow rate of two litres per minute. Observations and Comments 1. Doors to packing room were opened and closed intermittently throughout the sampling period. 2. Large amounts o f asbestos-containing boards and mats, as well, as piles o f "blue felt asbestos mats" were observed stacked in the packing room. 3. No "blue felt asbestos" was being used on the day of the visit. 4. All area samples were placed 3 to 5 feet above the ground. T. B l u e felt asb e s t o s . The blue felt asbestos is used intermittently (about 4 hours a week). Skids are stacked on top of each other in the packing department, and are left uncovered. Some edges of the mats are broken. 2. T h e lead a n d n - b u t y l al c o h o l , a r e m i x e d to p r e p a r e a l i q u i d g a s k e t compound. The employees expressed concern about the lead powder and the odour from the alcohol. T.
