Subjecti Asbestos Exposures - D-Mag Area
April 6, 1977
On March 3, 1977 an industrial hygiene survey vas oonduotod in the D-Mag area of the Kentucky Truck Plant to determine if any employe is exposed to asbestos. The surrey vas initiated by Mr. J. Holliday after ha de termined that a stall portion of an asbestos spray insulation ooraring had bean damaged resulting in asbestos partioles settling in several storage bins.
The attached data sheet indicates that no asbestos is being enittod into the air fro* the damaged insulation areas and the exposure resulting from employe movement in the area is minimal. Based on insulation con dition and sampling results, it is unlikely that any employe vas or is exposed to levels of asbestos in the D-Mag area which oould be considered unhealthy.
It vas determined that the insulation damage resulting in asbestos par ticulate emissions vas caused by storing packages in bins not protected with metal screen guards. To prevent any further insulation damage, those few areas without screens should have screens installed immediately. To prevent any airborne emissions of asbestos from flaking insulation due to age, the Industrial Hygiene Section agrees vith Mr. Holliday's suggestion to spray the entire insulation area vith a sealant spray coating such as a coat of paint.
