I spoke with Mike Sweet over the phone on March 10 concerning the possible sale of our by-product chemicals to Trueger Chemical Company in Springfield, N.J. Mr. Sweet referred me to you as the person to contact on this account. I'm acting on an inquiry from Trueger Chemical in the form of a letter that was sent to R. E. Lehmkuhl and distributed to all the chemical.plant managers. I have enclosed a copy of the letter for your reference.
To help you in your dealings, I have enclosed the information requested by Trueger Chemical concerning the current inventories, production, compositions and prices of our available by-products. To give you a basis to work from, our light ends stream is currently being sold to Vulcan Materials Company in Birmingham, Alabama for $0,025 per pound. Conoco pays $0.0175 per pound shipping fee for the transfer (March 1). We now pay PPG Industries here in Lake Charles $0.0175 per pound to dispose of our tars, or heavy ends. Shipping costs raise that to $0.0221 per pound. Also, the tars are classified as a hazardous waste by the EPA and their transportation requires manifesting and reporting.
The material compositions I have listed on the attached sheet are typical values based on monthly averages over a period of time and may vary somewhat.
