Schmidt, Jr Locatcoati 50 W, Broad - Columbus Datki May 8, 1973 Tabershaw-Cooper Associates, Inc. of Berkley, California, under the sponsorship of the Manufacturing Chemists Association, are making a study of the mortality of all employees (either present or past) in the Vinyl Chloride Monomer industry. Borden Chemical has agreed to participate in the sponsorship of this study as well as to include our employees in the group being studied. Therefore, Tabershaw-Cooper has been given your name as a contact for one of our plants and you will be hearing from them directly. Kindly supply them with any information you currently have on your employees, past or present, that they reouest. It is not anti cipated that any new information will be required. Basically, an epidemiology study consists of comparing the mortality of a specific group versus the population as a whole to determine if there are any statistical trends. To do so it requires that the causes of death, (if deceased) be determined for each member of the groun even if they have left our employment. This T-C will do, through county medical records and death certificates for all those individuals who have worked for us. In addition, we will have to supply T-C with some idea of the employees work history or exnosure. Because of the nature of the study, no contact will be made with our employees. The purpose of this study is to confirm somewhat incomplete data that there is no clinically significant difference in the mortality among VCM workers as compared to the population as a whole. All the major VCM and PVC producers will be a part of this study and it is anticipated that approximately 7,500 employees will be involved.
