This is in response to your Inquiry about exports of asbestos from the U.S. in May 1976.

I don't know the source or accuracy of the export reports; but, in collecting the above Information, I did note several obvious discrepancies and/or mis calculations. I also don't know what is included in "waste and refuse", or why some countries have multiple listings. There are some $700-800/T products

going to countries like Norway, Mexico and the Arab Empire, where we don't ship RG-244 or SX-24. According to Canadian price schedules, these must be Grades 3 or 4.
I think the trends in the first table above reflect the demise of JM-Coalinga and the re-appearance of the Calaveras County production, especially if all their products are shipped as "waste and refuse".
Based on the average prices of U.S. Exports there appears to be little, if any, floor tile asbestos being exported from the U.S. The average prices indicate that most of the volume is Grade 6, probably from Calaveras since most of the Vermont production is used by GAF.
