LEAD ANALYSIS - TRADE PRODUCTS
Mr. S. T. Bowell HKf. W. Tome
Mr. J. E. Southwick Mr. H. Swafford
It is quite obvious that the recent legislation in Chicago ia placing considerable pressure on us relative to lead content of our consumer paints.
There ia still considerable controversy regarding a good standard method for such analyses. However, three laboratories in Chicago have been authorised for lead analysis by the Chicago authorities.
Mr. Wickham has submitted four of our paints and one of a possible buy-out. The authorized laboratory which performed this work reported the results in the attached photocopy. This laboratory is called ArRo Laboratories, Inc,, and is located injoliet, Illinois. The cost for the analysis of these five samples for lead was a total of $75.00.
I would appreciate your examination of these results relative to the calculated amounts of lead in our products as well as any comparable analysis which Mr. Swafford may have performed.
I am forwarding the brochure from ArRo Laboratories describing their facilities and capabilities. I am informed that these people are extremely cooperative. Therefore, I shall attempt to determine what type of digestion methods thsy have utilized. It may also be that we will wish them to do some referee work for us once we have established a confidence level in their services.

I had previously advised that we had five products tested for lead
ft,
content and submitted their findings.
,
We have, just received the statement for testing this material which was only $75.00 for all the items. More interesting, I felt that you and other Cleveland people would want to see the type of concern that * did the testing, what their facilities are and how they go about testing. Obviously the greater part of the brochure is over my head but in the II . hands of Dr. Kiefer and other such people, it could prove most interesting.
In the interest of time it may be that we will be required to use these people for accelerated'testing of our products prior to July 1.
