Ready for Use SAXI-FLAT. in its wearing qualities, is superior to all others for the reason that only property prepared and treated oil is used as a binder; there is absolutely no rosin or gum used in its composi tion, which causes similar coatings to crack, craze or alligator, particularly when used around win dows or on surfaces subject to the rays of the sun, which is the real test for finishes of this char acter. A cheap rosin binder with a little China wood oil might temporarily answer the purpose and flat all right and apparently make a good job, 0007-SWP-000012516 10 EMPIRE WALL PAPER COMPANY but after a few years, in order to repaint, it will be necessary to remove the coat. Therefore, the only safe finish to use is one made with an oil binder, such as SANI-FLAT, so as to forever keep elastic and offer a surface that may be patnted over after a number of years of wear. Directions for Using Sani-Flat Shake the package well and after opening, stir the contents thoroughly from the bottom. Apply freely with a good-sized brush, and on walls lay off back and forth same as calcimine. If. from evaporation, Sani-Flat becomes too thick to work freely, add a little turpentine. New walls, sheathing board or beaver board should first receive a coat of Impervo Size or 1mpervo Size and Sani-Flat mixed in equal propor tions. One coat of Sani-Flat applied after this priming coat is thoroughly hard is usually sufficient. For priming new wood add at least one pint of linseed oil to a gallon of Sani-Flat. Old walls or woodwork that have been painted before require no preparation, one or two coats of Sani-Flat being sufficient, but in case of caicimined walls it is best to wash off the old material and treat same as for new walls. Fill cracks in walls with putty made from whit ing and Sani-Flat before first coat is applied and putty holes in woodwork between coats with the same material. Sani-Flat can be applied over Burlap by first treating the surface with a coat of Impervo Size. Steel Ceilings, Radiators, etc., can be finished with one or two coats and require no preparation. As Sani-Flat undergoes a change in drying you cannot judge of the color until dry. Any of the shades shown can be made lighter by intermixing with White Sani-Flat. As Sani-Flat has a tendency to skin over when exposed to the air, care should be taken, after a package has been opened and not all used the same day, to properly cover it so as to exclude the air. MURESCO SIZE This is a new preparation manufactured ex pressly for the purpose of overcoming the por ousness and dampness of the average plastered surface, and to prevent suction on such surfaces. A coat of this "sire" forms a non-absorbent finish to which the paste used on wall hangings will firmly adhere, and it also forms a surface which is impervious to the moisture arising from plas tered walls. It will not injure any ordinary colors or paper. It has more strength than the ordinary glue size, and it will be found much more con venient, as it is furnished in a dry, finely pow dered condition which dissolves readily in boiling water,and it does not decompose rapidly like ground glue when mixed with water. For Lincrusta Walton, Heavy Hand Pressed Papers and Burlaps, add a small quantity of Ven ice Turpentine. It will not peel or chip. This "size" is especially adapted as a first coat ing for Muresco work, as it kills all suction and very rarely fails to make a surface over a water stain through which the stain does not penetrate.
