The unannounced inspection was conducted by Pamela Storm who possesses EPA inspector credentials to conduct CAA NESHAP asbestos inspections and Tony Spann. Mr. Spann also possesses EPA inspector credentials and was participating in this inspection to meet training requirements to conduct CAA NESHAP asbestos inspections. The facility is a restaurant. Permit #725 was obtained from the City of Ellijay on September 13, 2021, for renovation and demolition activities by MK Group Properties (Bill Miller: phone 770-712-8953). According to the permit and discussions with the City of Ellijay, demolition of the restaurant portion of Green's Country Corner store, currently located next door in the strip shopping center at 2028 Old Highway South, occurred after relocating the restaurant and remodeling an approximately 986 square foot space to become the Country Corner Kitchen. The permit listed the owner of the facility as Kashir Lodhi Patel located at 2028 Old Highway 5 South in Ellijay (phone: 678-485-9261). The permit listed other contacts for the facility as Tony Sawadana (phone: 404-520-6496) and David Leone (phone: 954-444-3548). On September 2, 2022, EPA spoke with Mr. Kashif Rana with MK Group Properties who said that he was the owner of the facility at the time renovation/demolition activities occurred. The purpose of the inspection was to determine compliance with the CAA NESHAP Asbestos Standard and the regulations promulgated at 40 CFR Part 61, Subpart M, for the renovation and demolition activities conducted pursuant to this permit. The EPA Region 4 CAA NESHAP asbestos program targets facilities for inspection located in the State of Georgia based on tips/complaints; permits issued on a local level; and demolition and/or renovation/abatement notices sent to the State. This inspection was conducted based on the previously mentioned permit. Facility Information The facility is a restaurant. It was located next to Green's Country Store at 2028 Old Highway 5 South in a strip shopping center containing only the two facilities. The address sign above the Country Corner Kitchen showed its address as 2020 Old Highway 5 South. Renovation and demolition activities appeared to have been completed at the time of this inspection. The Country Corner Kitchen is an operating restaurant. The permit indicated that MK Group Properties is the contractor which performed the demolition and renovation activities at the facility Conclusion The inspectors will follow up with the owners/operators of the facility and the demolition/renovation activities, as deemed appropriate, to obtain information and necessary paperwork related to these activities. This information will include, but not necessarily be limited to, copies of asbestos inspection reports, demolition/renovation notifications, and waste shipment records for the facility.
