ASBESTOS HOUSEKEEPING COMPLIANCE OSHA FILE 24,648 CITATION TWO ITEM NO. 1, ASBESTOS ACCUMULATION
As a result of an OSHA citation in August, 1978, we were made aware of housekeeping problems associated with the removal of insulation con taining asbestos. It was pointed out that small quantities of this insulation had accumulated on surfaces in certain areas.
To achieve compliance a cleanup crew was established, the existing pro cedure was upgraded and the cleanup crew was trained in proper handling methods. This crew throughly cleaned floors, equipment, pipes, ducts, structural steel and other surfaces to remove possible accumulations of asbestos material. To verify the effectiveness of the cleanup, samples of debris were taken, before and after cleanup and the samples were ana lyzed for the presence of asbestos. Results of these samples are attached. Labor expenditures of $44,482 and material cost of $5,742 were required to complete the cleanup.
The following areas were cleaned:
1. Glycol Recovery Unit 2. Dowtherm Yard Areas (H & K Bldg.) 3. Boilers House (T Bldg.) 4. Continuous Polymerization Areas (1st, 2nd and 3rd floors in both
H & K Bldg.) 5. Spin Draw Area (1st floor & 1st Floor Mezz., K Bldg.) 6. Staple Spinning Area (1st Floor Mezz, H Bldg.) 7. Staple Processing Area (1st Floor & 1st Floor Mezz, J Bldg.)
With completion of the cleanup and with analyses of samples showing no remaining asbestos accumulation, we are now in compliance with the housekeeping section of the OSHA asbestos standard (29 CFR 1910-1001(h)

ASBESTOS SAMPLE RESULTS JUNE 29, 1979
These samples were taken prior to the cleanup operation. These samples were taken at random in the CP/Spinning areas of H and'K Buildings.
JUNE 30, 1980 These samples were taken after completion of the cleanup. These samples were also taken at random in the CP/Spinning areas of H and K Buildings. Sample 3 contained <1% asbestos. Sample 3 was taken from a crack in the wall and would not constitute a violation of the housekeeping standard. Sample 7 was known to be asbestos and was used as a control.

Dear Ms. Wronski:
We have completed our analysis for asbestos in the six bulk samples submitted with your letter of 20 June. These samples were identified as 11286-11291.
The samples were examined by polarized light microscopy and dispersion staining. The results of this examination are given in the following table:
