Ellenburg, Research Department Monsanto Chemical Company Anniston, Alabama Dear Mr. Ellenburg: In accordance with our telephone conversation of Wednesday there are enclosed twenty copies of our report on the vapor pressures of three samples of your Aroclors. We are sorry that they are so late reaching you, but, as you probably know, we have had to do a good deal of work at our own expense in order to run down some peculiarities in the early data. We want to emphasize that we are not prepared to say that these vapor pressures are typical of the Aroclors. So far as we know, they are typical only of the samples we studied. As we have discussed before, it would take some of the same measurements on several additional samples before anyone could say confidently that they are typical results. How many samples would be required would depend partially on what variation was encountered. We think that checking the vapor pressure at only one temperature for eacli additional sample would be adequate. Your Dr. Hardy asked for an estimate of the cost of such additional measurements. It appears that if we had as many as half a dozen or more samples at one time, we could do duplicate determinations at a cost not exceeding $50 per sample. Because you have told us something of what you would like ultimately to do with these results, we must remind you of the terms of our contract which prevents you from using our name in advertising without our explicit permission. However, you are perfectly free to show our reports to any one you wish.
