MINUTES of Che OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY COMMITTEE k EDUCATION & LEGISLATION COMMITTEE MEETING NATIONAL INSULATION MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION ' New York, N. Y. Deceober 10, 1969 The meeting was called co order ac 9:30 A.M. with the following in aecendancc: M. S. Gleeson W. Gubar A. W. Johnson DR. J. L. Kanren R. E. Naylor C. J.. ShecUler J. t. Vyverberg J. M. Barshare PPG C/GB C/SG O-C J-M J-M O-C RIKA WEST COAST STUDY Dr. C. Cooper's letter of November 7, 1969, was reviewed. All work to date indicate* chat fibrous glass does not represent a health hazard. Following extensive discussion, it was agreed by all present (C/SG,J-X,0-C) that a 1970 program should be undertaken with the University of California A property detailed program, involving approximately che same cost ($33,000 for 1969), and including the following was agreed tot (a) Ambient Air Study (b) Sheet Metal Workers (limited in terms of time and people studied) (including environmental, clinical and epidemiological studies) FIBROUS CLASS POSITION PAPER It was reported that che position paper and supplemental documents had bean distributed. It was agreed chat distribution should be as follows: 1. Health Aspects of Fibrous Glass in Beating or Air Conditionir. Ducts (Not for distribution in the field). 2. Sumary of Docmentcd Evidence on che Health Aspects of Fibrous glass (Not for distribution in the field). 3. Questions and Answers about Fibrous Glass la Heating and Air Conditioning Ducts (can be distributed in che field). It was reported that a fact file is being compiled and vill be maintained la che NJMA office., and also that a medical faec file is to be compiled. LEGISLATURE PROCRAM It wee reported that It was possible chat bills had been prssubmitted prohibiting the use of duct liner In the States of Kansas and Kentucky. M.S. Gleason will check this out and advise the NIMA office. It was suggestsd that each company advise M.S. Gleason the Individuals la the various Ststes and in Canada that can be contacted with respect to legislative matters. 3' KETTERING STUDY Ic was reported that the study has bean completed, but that the final report cannot be written until pertinent enginaerir.g information is sent to Kettering Laboratories. CONTRACTOR PROCRAM It was agreed that another program should be developed to be presented to the National Insulation Contractor's Association. Details will be completed as soon as .practicable. OTHER BUSINESS ' It was reported that ASTI! Committee C-16.00 has formed a Special Committee entitled "Potential Hazards Associated with Thermal Insulations''. Members of this Committee are: V.P. Ellis - Benjamin Fester V. Gubar - C/GB E.P. Hoope - Fibreboard H.J. Waits - Dow Chemical J.B. Mochel - Philadelphia Electric P.S. Maco - .\sbestoscray J.M.
