National Safety News, April, 1955AC Pabst, p. 20, mentions asbestos as one of the "hazardous materials that are encountered in petroleum refinery operations or that alight be compounded into finished products." (110) 2. AJ Hayes, AFL-CIO, Machinists Union, 1957 Mat. Safety Congress Transactions, p. l6. under the heading "Secrets Prevail in Industry", he mentions the "marked correlation between asbestos employment ana lunf cancer", and follows with "Here again, the industry has been traditionally reluctant to cooperate in a full scale scientific studyof this curioms correlation." (20) 3 National Safety Mews, Sept, I960, p. 62. (Asbestosis, Carcinoma of the Lung) refers to Anderson/Carapagna case report w/ literature review, stressing the need for smoking histories with case reports of cancel* with asbestos, mentions Hueper and that "Many in vestigators previously have fel that asbostosis predisposes to lung carcinoma." A. NSC Transactions, 196^> pp 11-12. mentions few Tork Times story on asbestos-cancer link, remaining uncertainty there, but goes on to say, "(There) is a better recog nized hazard which also leads to disability and death. That is asbostosis. If we make every effort to eliminate asbestosis, it seem-* likely we will have don what we can to eliminate the cancer hazard also." 5. Nat. Safety News, July, 1979, two articles on p. 51 and 58. the latter article is about new asbestos substitutes in gaskets, "Piberfax rope" by Carborundum Co. I suspect that NSC materials would be especially useful in plant worker cases, and that there were many industrial asbestos users receiving NSC writings and participating in NSC functions. There were other items sent by Mr. Nisbet that are of no tise in the litigation, which I am not enclosing.
