Tromblee The regular weekly meeting of the 1985 SHAC committee was called to order by the Chairman, Jim Gatewood, on Wednesday, January 23 in the VIP Conference Room. CONTRACTOR SAFETY ( J. Gatewood reviewed G. Tromblee's concern over contractor safety. R. Hammann will contact the Decatur and Pensacola plants as well as local industry to determine what they are doing about contractor safety and what their safety performance has been to date. R. Sharp will assist Bob as needed in the survey. HAZARDOUS MATERIAL/SAFETY EQUIPMENT MATRIX J. Gatewood exhibited two plastic laminated charts depicting in matrix format the protective equipment required for personnel handling various hazardous materials. This format has been successfully used by material handling, and the PMSB has requested that a similar format be developed and standardized for plantwide use. SHAC members will survey their assigned areas {listed below) for the type of hazardous materials handled, and determine the most useful location for posting the matrix charts. Coleman L FIRE AND SPILL ALARMS LAM001643 The question was raised as to whether or not employes felt a certain reluctance to calling in a spill or fire alarm. J. Hammann to review at next meeting the status of the plant's "Off the Job Safety Program". SHORT TERM SAFETY GOALS J. Gatewood reviewed with the committee the concept of "short term safety goals" - a concept that the Muskatine plant attributes to sharply improving their safety performance. One immediate short term goal to be emphasized is to exceed our last record of 8,715,815 manhours worked without a lost work day incident. R. Coleman to investigate possibility of constructing novelty signs which could be posted at the Main and West gates. The signs would be updated weekly, and should be of a novel design such as a 6 foot high thermometer or man climbing a mountain. More short term goals need to be developed and emphasized by high visibility campaigns. R. Coleman to contact Cindy Kib.ikas for implementing the following publicity items generated by the committee: 1) Display board depicting all members of the plant safety organization. 2) Safety slogan contest in plant news. 3) Safety slogan on portable sign at both gates. 4) Safety quiz in plant news. 5) Interview with Styrene, Boilermakers and Dept. 48/56 for outstanding safety performance. 1985 SHAC GOALS The 1985 SHAC goals and principle thrust statement were developed.
