It was agreed, when po ssible to include the data in other popular current pu b l ic a tions. It was requested that the Promotional Committee, wn o has ultimate responsibility for the pub 1ications , allow the Technical Committee to review them for technical accuracy, as they are indi vidually considered for revision. ITEM I 1-63-73 ASSES 'S r ISEP IN JDK.'T CQMP'JND It had been recommended that the A s so ci at io n begin an investiaative p r o g r a m to determine the extend of hazards to healtn and safety of use of asbestos in joint compounds, as a result of sanoinn and dry mixing operations. OSHA regulations are Strict concerning asbestos and there could be problems w i th i n the gypsum industry as 2 result of inhalation of asoestos fibers present in dust environments. Th e co mm ittee proposed the fo ll owing initial considerations: 1. T h e me mber companies s h ou l d pool information they r.ave c* the subj ec t. 2. It is n e ce ss ar y to de te rmine ranges of hazards. 3. Th e staff is to develop a list of testing agencies Q u al ified to conduct tests of cust environments uontaininc ^ asbestos, determine estimated costs of test pr og ra ms, ~~ and report on metnocs used. o U. It ws resorted that contractor o rg a ni za ti on s had recuested guidance f r o m the Association on tne problem. The possib il it y of drafting an ASTM standard on join; treatment compound was d:scussec but no recommendation was made. An opinion was expressed that asbestos m a y not be an ingredient in joint co mp ou nd within the next three years. It was further speculated that co n t r a c t o r groups sucn as GDCI and iaWCC may wish to participate f i na n c i a ll y in the de v e lo p ment of an industry safety program for hazardous dust protection. A request was attached to the agenda fro- p 1an ni n g /D es ic n Consultants for data re aa rc in g vault construction for record storage. UL has such data and the committee recommenced the inauiry be directed to UL for answer. c) Specification for application of finish materials outsice of 55 to 70F. A question was brought that ANSI AS7.1 should c l e a r U state t e mp er at ur e ap pl ication limitations for ma te ri al s sucn as jo " treatment. The committee suggestec that 55f m i n i m u m sr.ould be src-..n in bold type for such application in future revisions to Ap'.i.
