He had been asked by Fudan Medical University not to return to China due to SARS and the project was on hold. It has now been operating for two weeks and everything is going smoothly. Fudan has reportedly received all the necessary licenses and approvals from Beijing, including permission to export diagnostic samples, which will not occur until next year. Rich's current view on a formal launch is that the project should operate successfully for a period of months, then have a low-key event in the fall or next winter. I suggested that this topic should be on the agenda for the project review meeting in the US in August, along with related communications issues.
