BRAKE SYSTEM SERVICE LESSON ONE-MODULE 2 Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir BSR017-A Item 1 Filler Cap 2 Reservior Description item 3 Sensor 4 Grommets Description The only part of the brake system that could have a brake fluid loss that does not appear when the system is under pressure is the brake master cylinder reservoir area. Brake fluid loss can be caused by: a missing or poorly-fitted brake master cylinder filler cap. a punctured or otherwise damaged brake master cylinder reservoir. a missing or damaged brake master cylinder filler cap gasket. missing, damaged or poorly-fitted sealing grommets between the brake master cylinder and the brake master cylinder reservoir. The brake master cylinder reservoir grommets are not separately serviceable and must be installed new as part of a new brake master cylinder reservoir. If the master cylinder does not appear to be leaking, raise the vehicle on a lift and inspect all: - brake lines - hoses - connections Look for brake fluid on the floor under the vehicle and at the wheels. Brake lines must not be kinked, dented, or otherwise damaged and there should be no leakage. Brake hoses should be flexible and free of leaks, cuts, cracks and bulges.
