r * OtTEBEC ASBESTOS MINING ASSOCIATION UNIFORM CLASSIFICATION & GRADING COMMITTEE- The following were present at a meeting of the Uniform Ciassification & Grading Committee held in the Asbestos Corpo ration Operations Office Conference Room on July 20, 1966. Ltd. - Carey Canadian Mines Ltd. - Lake Asbestos of Quebec, Ltd. - National Asbestos Mines Ltd. 1. The minutes of the meeting of this Committee held on March 17, 1966, written by Mr. W.H. Foster were reviewed. 2. Zeiss Particle Size Analyzer. Mr. A.A. Winer's future work with Zeiss Particle Size Analyzer was discussed. . Any fibres requested by Mr. Winer would be forwarded to Mr. Winer byrMr. Dodds-Hebron but through the Sherbrooke Labo ratory who would do all standard tests on this material but would forward information to Mr. Winer, Mr. Dodds-Hebron and Mr. Foster. Mr. Winer wishes to obtain Cassiar fibres from Mr. DoddsHebron, Cassiar fibres were choosen because of abundance of ' easily manipulated relatively shorter fibres. 3. S-U. Procedure for next Round Robin (1966^ Objections were made to deviations from standard proce dure in drawing samples for S.U. testing. Sherbrooke Laboratory has corrected sane Improper practices. Mr. Foster plans to organize another S.U. Round Robin to be completed during this year (1966). More uniform S.U. techni que, procedure and methods are to be used in accordance with tech nlcal committee's recommendations. - A temporary procedure is to be set-up before the next Round Robin is carried out. It was found that when using 90 minutes approximately 1/2 the results went up and approximately 1/2 went down. : ! ft. Boisvert's Thesis.on ashjsat.QS._ln_concrete. * It was suggested that an English translation of Boisvert's thesis on Influence of asbestos fibre in concrete would be useful. - 5. Sherbrooke Laboratory Mr. Marcel Cossette has been appointed as the new director of the Sherbrooke Laboratory. Sherbrooke Laboratory is now on 7th cycle using 6 group fibres. . _ Mr. Cossette has asked for office space for a typist and secretary. Mr. Foster will check with Mr. Cossette the cost of building such an office, moving equipment, etc. is estimated at $1,853.00 -r" - Under date of June 8,1966, Mr. Cossette asked for Research equipment especially an Extract Column. This request was refused. 6. 35. mesh for 0..S^testlng machine This Committee has concluded that 35 mesh Q..S. is not to be treated as a standard test. There is no mention of it in the Testing Procedure Manual nor is it shown in national Research drawing of the Q.S. testing machine. 7. StreEfitfr.Vnit Mr. hr .Lindsay's suggestions concerning plotting S.U. for determination were discussed. ' . It was recommended that Mr. Cossette arrange for parallel tests using plotting method vis-a-vis normal method for 5 and 6 groups in order to determine whether or not the results should be given to the Technical Committee for their opinion. 8. Bar Markings . It was recommended by one company that colour marking be used to show S.U. range. The S.U. ranges limits would be 50, 60, 70, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125.
