I think it will be possible for me to arrange such a visit during the week beginning January 2d, and I should be very glad indeed to have information from you as to just where and whom I should see in order to carry out this purpose* I am interested in the following matters:- I wish to see the standard methods by which smelting is carried out in as nearly as possible ideal conditions, to . know what precautions are being carried out in various stages in the process, and to find if possible facts relative to the incidents of lead poisoning in connec tion with various steps in the operation* I wish to do this in order to, know exactly how adequate the pre sent methods of preventing lead poisoning in connection with smelting are, not with the idea of making any criticisms, but purely for my own information for use in connection with various lead operatives which I have under my supervision* I should appreciate it as the greatest courtesy to me if I Could obtain full and frank information on these matters, and X assure you that all that I see and dis cover will be held in the strictest confidence as a matter of pure scientific and practical interest in governing my own activities.
