On June 20, 1968, a visit was aada to the U. S. Steel Corp,, Michigan Liaeetone Dirlaloo, Cooneast, Ohio, to check oooditiona under which the above named claimant had worked. The ooapeny <*eeeiTee liaeetone by self unload ing vessels, cruehea end ecreena it to remove fines, and prooeeeee this liaeetone for industrial use - for (lass, rook dusting In nines, ealolua supplement for snlasls sad fillers for asphalt, etc. They also produce an agriculture linestons.
In the processing they crush the limestone, dry it so it oan be screened, screen it, add aoisture and ahip. The begged llaastcne which is a ninor part of their product is begged dry, Liaeetone as received contains considerable aoisture. It does not lose this aoisture when stored. The final product, except that which is bagged, 000tains h - &% aoisture, so dust ii <t 1 minimum.
The high calcium liaeetone is received froa Roger City, Michigan and the high aagnasiua cions is received froa Cedarrille, Michigan.
Analysis seen at the plant and cargo analysis supplied the conpsny indi cate an average of lass then one per cent combined silica. The free silica would be much lower.

Dear Mr. Huffman
Re: Claim Ho. OD 8682-22 Robert E. Dedloff
In my letter to you dated July 1, 1968, I indicated that we were requesting further information from our Chief Chemist regarding the amount of free silica in the stone and that I would forward his findings to you upon receipt of same.
I am enclosing a copy of a letter from Kr. George W. Mintz, General Superintendent, Eastern Limestone Operations, which is selfexplanatory and supplements the information already given to you concerning the amount of silica in the stone. It appears to me from the copy of your letter to the Industrial Commission dated July 8, 1968, that this letter from Mr. Mintz concerning our chemist's findings is not necessary for you to complete yxir in vestigation. However, since I had indicated that I would get you this information, I am referring it to you for whatever use you
may wish to make of it.
Very truly yours,
Enel .

It does con tain some free silica (quartz^ from 40% of the total silica In the larger stone sizes to as high as 75% of the total silica
In the fluxing fines.
We would like to reiterate that the total average silica of both of the stones Is less than one percent. This can be verified by the analysis sheets mailed to you June 26, 1968.
