Norvood: I am returning to you herewith the results of our analyses on three of your m e n . On one of these, there was no urine sample. Some interpretation of these results Is justified, hut in order that we may make a more adequate interpretation, I should he pleased if you would send along the clinical data which I requested ,at your early c o n v e n i e n c ^ ^ T w ^ o f the blood samples, on , are within normal limits! T h a t o n ^ ( ( B | | ^ r i s j u s t a t t h ex treme upper edge of normal values and might be regarded as giving some evidence of occupational lead exposure. The other does not reveal any exposure. In the case of Ed Caplan, however, the result Is well above normal limits, and although It Is not necessarily significant of dangerous exposure, such values are compatible with the existence of mild symptoms of lead intoxication. The two urine samples, however, have yielded essentially normal results. That on Raymond Johnson is just at the upper level of normal values, but if this vere a concentrated sample of urine, it could not be regarded as abnormal in its lead concentration. In summary of these results, I would conclude that these men have a mild and hygienically insignificant occupational lead exposure. This conclusion could only be adequately founded If we were to have a number of analyses, either on additional men in the same occupation or repeated analyses on these men. It is quite certain, however, that the occupational lead expo sure on these men is not of a seriously hazardous type. Not knowing the precise nature of your intentions with respect to further samples, and wishing to avoid the difficulties of bookkeeping in the Laboratory, I am enclosing herewith a bill to cover the cost of analyses reported herein.
