Kehoe, Dear Dr. Kehoe: Referring further to your letter of October 24th regarding the return of gasoline in tank cars, I now have copy of a letter that John Schaefer has addressed to you on this sub ject which lists the approximate quantities end lead concentrations of these returns. It would seem from John's report that this is not a common practice but is limited to a few refineries. We have already instructed John to write to the refinery superintendents on each occasion that the cars are not properly washed out and all of the gasoline removed, calling their attention to the Medical Department's regulations on this- subject and asking them to set up the proper inspection system, to prevent a recurrence. John will also send a copy of this letter to our Division Managers v/ho will follow it through to a conclusion through their field staffs. I am hopeful that this will eliminate any further difficulty in this regard and trust that this action meets with your approval. It would seem that John Schaefer has provided for the proper handling of this leaded gasoline stock at the Plant. We would appreciate your further comments on this subject and if you think any additional action is necessary we will certainly be governed by your wishes. C:C j -
