Chenault subj ec t Standard Oil Company - Steel El Segundo, California a d d r e s s Cincinnati a d d r e s s Los Angeles dat e February 25, 1948 You will recall our discussion of the tank steel at Standard Oil Company, El Segundo which, due to the Los Angeles smog problem, they were rumble to bum before disposing of the sheets by sale to the junk dealers. This steel was aged about two to three months be fore disposing of it. We found that some of the scale had come off, but some was stuck very tightly to the sheets. There was none of the sheets from the bottom of the tank inasmuch as this was left intact to act as additional foundation for the new tank that was con structed. Under separate cover we are shipping you a small quantity of scale that was taken directly off of the sheets. This scale is from the lower side sheets adjacent to the tank bottom. This scale was very tightly stuck to the sheets and had to be chipped off. We would appreciate the results of the lead test on this seals and any further recommendations you may have regarding procedure we should make in disposing of these sheets.
