This is not always the best alternative for Derivatives. The No.2 and No.3 Heavy Stills generate bottoms which contain 50 to 70 percent EDC. This bottoms stream is processed through the Recovery Still to remove the EDC. If you shut down this stream must go to the Bottoms Plant Feed Tanks. Whenever possible you should leave the Recovery Still running (or on total reflux) and process EDC heavy still bottoms.
