Anderson Subject: VCM Shipments to Outside Customers Since complaints were made by Escambia Chemical and Great American Plastics concerning the quality (iron, color) of our VCM, several precautionary measures have been taken prior to each shipment to prevent a recurrence. I feel these measures are proven by now and should be made a standard procedure for future shipments until process improvements can be made which make: these measures unnecessary. Loa-*~- d Cars should be loaded about 10 days prior to the scheduled shipping date. Several extra cars should be loaded so that alternate material is available if analyses indicate any of the material is questionable. For instance, if 5 cars are ordered, load 7 cars. Analyses To assure specification material and detect any deterioration after loading, multiple analyses for iron and color are to be made. At least 3 samples are to be taken from each car and analyzed for iron and color at approximately equal intervals between the time the car is loaded and the time it is shipped. For instance, a car loaded on the 1st would be analyzed on the 1st, 5th and 10th. The first analysis should be complete and the last two for iron and color only. The last sample should be taken on the day prior to or the day of shipment and the iron analysis should be by both the Monsanto method and the Escambia method. /earn J. W.
