Total Aroclor business represents $21 m" sales returning $ 1 C~ gross profit on $ 13M gross investment. - Sales of non-degradab1e Aroclor (1260,125^ and possibly 12-48 isotopes) account for $ 1 8 H sales - $ 1 5M in function* fluids and $3M plasticizers. - Solid aroclor s a nd A12 21 are degradable and pose no environmenta1 threat . Division has maintained an aggressive program of customer education, and cooperative efforts with research organizati; governmen ta 1 agencies and w11d 1 i fe groups to identify the sco of the problem, eliminate discharges, improve analytical methods and conduct toxicity studies. - Concerned agencies a nd groups are appreciative of our efforts. - FOA indicated it was con tempi a ting a residue level of 0.5 ppm in milk and 50 ppm in food. Publicity about PCI's has been limited to a few articles in scientific publications and news papers until Congressman : c press conference implicating Monsanto and the products. WATER PCB-SD0000019968 Program has been established to curtail discharges from c plants which has reduced levels by SOX and will e v e n t u a 1 1 nearly eliminate any P C B effluent. Sales are being terminated to a number of industrial user where there is 1 nadequate possibi1ities of control , for s uses as: - pesticide extenders - medicinal, dental and cosmetic - cutting otls - distributor sales. Plans are prepared for phasing out of businesses within year, in industrial fluids, amounting to $5M sales, and f sealants, coatings adhesives and paper coatings, amount to $3M in sales. - Substitute products are being developed to replace the non-degradable aroclors. Sales will be continued for transformers, capacitors an transfer uses which are closed systems or sealed units . permit reclamation or other con tro1 of material. - Transformers are dependent upon aroclors for r e1 ia b' opera tion and no substitute product is available. Cone 1usIons : The Comm!ttee felt that while the division had taken m< steps to resolve this problem, more aff i rmative action be taken.
