PITTMAN WILLIAM PENN HOTEL 1977 June 30 RE: FLAMEMASTIC ASBESTOS-FREE FLAME RESISTANT MASTIC COMPOUNDS I called Flamemastic Corporation, Sun Valley, California (213 - 982-1650) and spoke with Mr. Robert Murphy, Director of Research. Mr. Murphy advised that Flamemastic will have commercially available in the very near future an asbestosfree flame resistance mastic compound (within 3-4 months). This material is claimed to be as good or better than their present asbestos containing compound. It is undergoing extensive evaluation at several steel companies, including Inland Steel, and is also being evaluated in Japan. They are using glass fibers of varying length as replacement for asbestos. They have not named the product yet and have done some minor formulation variations although the basic formulation has been settled on.
