Asbestos Monitoring at Institute Plant
Attached are the results of asbestos monitoring conducted on May 7, 1985 while construction employees stripped approximately 200 ft. of insulation from 3 inch process lines at an area just west of the Pesticide B Unit where the lines had been laid out on the ground on top of plastic sheets.
Four construction employees were used on the job with two insulators to strip the insulation and two laborers to clean up and bag the stripped insulation. All employees were protected by usage of cartridge respirators, coveralls, gloves, and boots. A barricade with asbestos hazard signs was erected around the work area and a water hose was used to keep the insulation saturated during stripping and clean up. The plastic sheets on which the process lines were laid were also disposed of by rolling up and placing in bags.
All samples were found to contain levels of asbestos fibers well below the permissible exposure limit of 2.0 fibers per c.c. of air. Please notify all employees of the exposure results. If we can be of further assistance, please contact us on either extension 3750 or extension 5904.
