CONTAMINATION VISTA Thomas & Betts purchased 2234FR BLK (Lot 30-A8009) from the Visalia facility which was found to be contaminated with Backa: The material was produced 1/6/88 and shipped as indicated: 3/1/88 4/19/88 5/19/88 7,186 LBS 14,000 LBS 1Q.0Q0 LBS 31,186 LBS T&B produced approximately 3 MM feet of jacketed ribbon cable with this material. One box of unused compound remains in their warehouse--approximately 2 M LBS. We believe T&B cannot specifically distinguish the cable produced with above product. Their internal records do not identify lot to lot production. During this period, Exxon was our plasticizer supplier of record. A split load of 80 TM & DINP was delivered 11/30/87. Only one compound produced during January contained DINP as part of the formula--9940A BLK--which was produced 1/18/88 (12 days following subject material). After internal review, Visalia feels that nothing in their system caused the contamination. After review with Legal, we need to determine product liability/risk assessment and communicate vista's position: 1) Request a recall. 2) Accept liability/warn customer of liability. VVV 0000105A2
