This report contains methods, results, discussion and conclusions. E- 000480 INTRODUCTION At the request of Mr. Braxtont Routh of Champlin Petroleum Refinery, an asbestos survey was made in the administration building and laboratory. The survey was made on May 23, 1983. E- 000481 METHODOLOGY Airborne samples were collected by pulling a measured volume of air through a 0.8 ym Millipore filter mounted in a three-piece cassette. Tests were made open face on the'filter. Air was pumped using a Bendix BDX 44 pump calibrated to pump 2 L/minute. Calibrations were made using a Buck calibrator which is a primary standard. All samples were prepared and counted by S & B Laboratories, a certified laboratory, in Houston, Texas. Bulk samples were tested using the SKC test kit which gives only a positive or negative result. All samples were collected by Harry Edwards of Occupational Health Consultants, Inc. of Freeport, Texas. E- 000482 RESULTS No asbestos was found in any of the locations tested or bulk samples examined (Table I). E- 000483 DISCUSSIONThere were many particles coining from the air conditioning ducts. This was being seen on desk tops and throughout the building. The material is not asbestos, but a fiberous material. It seems that both buildings are overrun with termites which seem to be eating the insula tion materials. E- 000484 <i CONCLUSIONS No asbestos was found during this testing period.
