McIMTYHE-SARAHAC CONFERENCE The McIntyre Foundation of Toronto, Canada, have extended an invita tion to us to hold a joint conference with them in Saranac Lake during February of 1955* This invitation has been accepted end the dates set for the conference are February 7, 8, and 9. By mutual agreement the conference will be held in the Town Hall. Doctor Lanza has been selected as chairman of the Conference and the Scientific Committee for the program will com prise the followings Dudley A. Irvin, M.D., Medical Director of the Aluminum Company of America, Pittsburgh, Pa.; J. V. G. Hannon, M.D., Medical Director of McIntyre Research Foundation, Washington, Pa.; Gordon M. Meade, M.D., Executive Director of Trudeau-Saranac Institute, Trudeau, N. I.; and G. W. H, Schepers, M.D., D.Sc., Director of The Saranac Laboratory, Saranac Lake, N. I. To assist this committee the following staff members have been nominated: Treasurer and Secretary, respectively: Mr. Clarence Wagner, controller of the Trudeau-Saranac Institute, and Mr. Norman Sturgis, of the Publicity Department of the Trudeau-Saranac Institute. The Conference will have six full sessions. The first will be an introductory session and following it will be five sessions, lasting three hours each, at which original papers will be presented. The themes will include: Epidemiology of Silicosis and Occupational Chest Disease Evaluation of Experimental Research on Dust Diseases Aluminum in the Control of Silicosis Specific Dust Studies Engineering and Medico-legal Problems of Occupational Chest Disease The provisional financial arrangements for tile Conference are that a fee of 30 will be charged to registrants. Invitations are being sent to about 1,000 interested persons and it is anticipated, from the experience of both the McIntyre Foundation and The Saranac Laboratory with their past meetings, that at least 300 persons may attend. Should this occur, all expenses*Including those of publication of the proceedings, may be met. The McIntyre Foundation and the Trudeau-Saranac Institute will share pro rata any loss sustained by the Conference. It is hope that this Conference, through bringing many scientists, physicians, administrators, and engineers to the Laboratory, will stimulate interest in the work performed in Saranac Lake so that, even if a financial loss were to be incurred, the promotion value will fully justify such expenditure.
